nutrition to the field, focusing on sport specific conditioning.
Understanding that movement transcends all sports, our approach
combines speed, strength, agility, core stability, explosion, and
recovery to enhance athletic performance. At Fitness Together we
believe that one size does NOT fit all and that if you want to be
better at your sport than you need to train specifically for that
sport.
The amounts and types of food that players eat have an impact on not
only their sporting performance but also on their growth and general
health levels.
The amount and types of food eaten by athletes is extremely important
as their energy requirements are greater, needing sufficient energy
levels to not only perform their sport but also to recover. Below is a
list of the essential food groups that an athlete needs to have in
their diet to ensure optimal result and prevent fatigue. The amount of
consumption for each food group will vary with age and gender and it is
important to understand when they should be eaten. (morning, pre-game,
during game, post-game, etc.)
Protein
Carbohydrates
Fats (also called lipids)
Vitamins
Minerals
WATER and OTHER FLUIDS (Although not considered a food group its importance is equivalent to that of the others.)
The trainers at Fitness Together set specific guidelines for athletes
to follow and ensure that each athlete understands that they “are
what they eat”. We believe that Maximum results are obtained with
hard work and good eating habits.
Injury Prevention
Unfortunately, all athletes will face injury at one point in their
career. It is our goal at Fitness Together to implement a sport
specific, strategic and customized workout program along with a warm-up
and cool-down that prepares the athlete for competition to prevent
otherwise avoidable injuries. Simply getting the heart rate up and the
muscles warm is just scratching the service. In most sports, an
athlete’s body will be pushed to certain extremes. It is
important to prepare the body’s joints, muscles and tendons by
lengthening the muscles and tendons to extremes and preparing them for
the shock of competition. This can help to avoid the tearing,
straining, and pulling of muscles and tendons.
A big part of the warm-up and cool-down is stretching. The trainers at
Fitness Together provide specific and routine stretches for the
athletes to perform during their warm-up and cool down which is
specific to their sport. Stretching is an essential part of the warm up
and cool-down because it improves flexibility which is critical for all
sports. Beyond increasing flexibility stretching also helps in relaxing
the muscles, decreasing the tightness of the muscle, and it also helps
to psychologically prepare the athlete for competition. Increased
flexibility is proven to increase physical fitness and also to reduce
both muscle soreness and tension.
Motivation and Goal Setting
Motivation and goal setting is an extremely important aspect in both
training and during competition. The trainers at Fitness Together help
each athlete with setting their own personal goals and also goals that
can be worked towards as a team. By setting structured, clearly
defined, and both long and short term goals you can measure and take
pride in the achievement of those goals. You can see forward progress
in what might previously have seemed a long pointless grind. By setting
goals, you will also raise your self-confidence, as you recognize your
ability and competence in achieving the goals that you have set.
